SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) – You’ve got one day left to file insurance claims against PG&E related to the 2017 and 2018 Northern California fires.

All claims must be filed by Tuesday, Dec. 31 at 5 p.m. PST.

“Whether you are a homeowner, a renter, if you lost your job as a result of the fire you need to register your claim and its simple to do,” Helen Sedwick said.

Attorney and Nuns Fire Survivor Helen Sedwick is part of the Group Survivors of the PG&E fires.

They’ve set up the website pgefireinfo.com to help people get their claims before the 5 p.m. deadline.

On its front page, it dispels some myths that PG&E is broke, that payments will be small, that payouts will take years, and that claim forms are complicated. They are not.

Sedwick says a common mistake when filing a claim is that some people fail to select personal injury.

“People don’t realize that emotional trauma and distress is a personal injury so when the form asks you to check which harms that were done they should check personal injury, even if they didn’t have a  physical burn or injury because that will include the emotional trauma,” Sedwick says.

Sedwick also says there have been incorrect assumptions that Tubbs Fire victims are excluded, not true says Sedwick.

In fact, the Northern California fires list includes more than two dozen fires. Sedwick says better to file than miss your chance.

If you believe money is owed to you by PG&E for loss or injury resulting from the fires that arose before PG&E filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy on Jan. 29, 2019, you must file your claim by Tuesday.

Those affected who do not submit a Proof of Claim by Tuesday’s deadline may be barred from filing a claim against PG&uE and give up the rights to any payment or other compensation.
